Community Service

Education

To improve literacy and education awareness in our community via projects serving preschool through 12th grade students.  Major projects are our annual scholarship for High School Seniors and the Read Across Indio Project which provides each kindergartener with a personal book to begin their own library.  WCI has also been an active participate in the Indio secondary schools with the Ophelia Project which empowers and encourages teenage girls to increase their sense of self-worth and maximize their potential contribution to society.

Arts in the Community

To promote the arts through education and participation in community programs throughout the valley.  Projects include the Southwest Arts Festival and the International Date Festival.

Community Affairs & Historical Preservation

To encourage volunteer participation in projects and activities that improve our community today and tomorrow.  Projects include volunteering at the Coachella Valley History Museum throughout the year and in support of the amazing annual Heritage Festival which celebrates the contributions of the diverse ethnic groups that comprise the Coachella Valley.  Several members volunteered to assist 2nd graders with their reading skills at Kennedy Elementary School and we support the Coachella Valley Rescue Mission through food and toy drives.

health & Public Safety

To educate members about health and safety issues, especially those that affect women.  Projects include participation in volunteer programs at hospitals, distribution of health safety materials, and speakers from community health and safety agencies.

empowering Women

To assist women as they acquire marketable skills through educational or vocational training.  Our Empowering Women through Education Scholarship is awarded annually.
